“ROSES is on of my most meaningful works. It was inspired by some of the latest works of the American artist Cy Twombly, in which he painted a series of murals with the representation of three roses. I think I speak for most people when I say that when one looks at a rose or a bouquet of roses, the first thing that pops up is love, romance, or Valentine’s Day. For a long time I associated roses with nothing but death, being bought to be left in the family vault. Only later in life ,experiencing love in its romantic form, roses started to represent nos only death but also love. Therefore I replaced Twombly’s roses with three skulls, to represent the opposite yet related meaning of these both beautiful and painful flowers. This one goes out to anyone who has ever greaved or is currently grieving.”
